Airtable and Smartsheet are both cloud-based project and data management services. They offer spreadsheet-based interface that allows to insert files and comments, supports collaborative editing, automation rules. Both services have mobile apps for iOS and Android and open API for integration with other tools.

But Airtable (launched in 2012) is originally a service for creating simple table-based apps. It has a more modern interface with a simple visual table editor and predefined views, including Kanban, Mosaic and Calendar. This service is suitable for small businesses in the creative industries and marketing and offers a free version.

Smartsheet (2005) is originally a project and resource management service for large business. Its interface is also based on a table view, but it also supports classic Gantt charts. Its functionality is focused on corporate compliance, reporting and security and follows classic PM methodologies.
