September 24, 2025
Clickup ($537.5M)
One app to replace them all. ClickUp brings tasks, docs, spreadsheets, goal tracking, resources, and an inbox, together in one place.
Smartsheet ($3.4B)
Smartsheet develops cloud-based work management platform that empowers collaboration, drives better decision making, and accelerates innovation.
ClickUp and Smartsheet are both cloud-based project management solutions available via web and mobile apps. They provide collaboration tools (comments, file sharing, messages, notifications), workflow automation capabilities and integration with other services via API and Zapier.
But ClickUp (founded in 2017) is more suitable for small teams. It is cheaper and also offers a free version. It provides more flexibility: multiple types of task/project views (tables, Kanban boards, calendars, Gantt charts), custom statuses, custom fields, etc. In addition to tasks/projects, it provides tools for managing documents, notes, whiteboards and chat for collaboration. Clickup is more intensively implementing new AI features.
Smartsheet (2005) is a more conservative solution. Its interface is closer to spreadsheets, which makes it familiar to Excel/Google Sheets users. It has strong capabilities for resource management, data collection via forms, reporting, external stakeholder access and project portfolio management. Smartsheet is less flexible and harder to adapt to atypical workflows.
